Saturday at Desertfest London 2018
My Desertfest Saturday started at the Electric Ballroom with The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell. The Hastings three piece kicked off the day with a very enjoyable set which provided (in their own words) "greasy fucking rock for the lunchtime crowd!"
Down to The Underworld next to see Scott 'Wino' Weinrich play a great acoustic set.
Next up was the Japanese doom metal band Church Of Misery at the Electric Ballroom. I really enjoyed their style of psychedelic rock and have to confess its the first time I've seen a theremin used in a concert!
Stoner metal band Weedeater were great to watch. I always like it when a band brings their drummer near to the front of the stage rather than being miles away at the back. It made the stage feel more compact for their set and allowed the Carolina three-piece to rock the Electric Ballroom as a unit.
Matt Pike is a very busy man! One of his bands 'Sleep' has just released a brilliant new album yet he's here in London headlining the Electric Ballroom with High On Fire. This was the chunkiest riff-heavy set of the day, worthy headliners.
I shot the day for Heavy Music Artwork, find them online and across social media. Also look out for the excellent printed editions and the collectors series of books.
