Friday at Desertfest London 2018
Desertfest is the UK's premier independent Stoner Rock, Doom, Psych and Sludge Festival. This year was the seventh edition of the festival and took place over three days, six venues and featured over seventy bands!
My Friday started off at Koko with Planet Of Zeus. They are currently the biggest rock band in Greece and played a great set of their stoner/heavy metal.
Following up at Koko was a really entertaining set of punk/hardcore from American rockers Zeke. Theirs was definitely one of the highest tempo sets of the weekend and they certainly had the best backdrop!
Next stop was the Electric Ballroom for some instrumental ritualistic soundscapes courtesy of Five The Hierophant. The venue was in smoke filled darkness for their set, the doom laden atmosphere only disturbed by the haunting sound of the saxophone. Is this band unusual? Definitely! Is this band enjoyable? Certainly!
Back to Koko next for The Obsessed. No introducton needed for these doom rock pioneers or their frontman Scott 'Wino' Weinrich. This was a great set delivered to a packed venue who enjoyed every note.
The final two bands for me on the Friday were both at the Electric Ballroom. First up were Southern rock/punk legends Eyehategod. Filling the venue with their hardcore sludge noise and delighting a crowd that had been chanting their name long before they hit the stage.
Before Napalm Death hit the stage I was lucky enough to listen to (and shoot) an interview Barney Greenway gave with Heavy Music Artwork. When they hit the stage they played a furious set of songs in a short, sharp machine gun burst style which I and the rest of the crowd loved.
I shot the day for Heavy Music Artwork, find them online and across social media. Also look out for the excellent printed editons and the collectors series of books.
