Melvins rock Koko
Any night that (the) Melvins come to town is guaranteed to be a good one, and this one was exceptional. This tour was to promote the new album ‘Pinkus Abortion Technician’ , without doubt one of the best albums of 2018, and including a really brilliant Beatles cover!
This reporter would have happily watched a set that was only the new album in full, but when you have such an extensive back catalogue it must be difficult to keep everyone happy! So we settled for just the two songs from this album, the excellent ‘Stop Moving to Florida’ and a lovely heavy version of ‘Don’t Forget to Breathe’.
For this year the band have welcomed a second bass player to the crew. The effect of this is the sound of the show was much heavier, with a dirty grungy/sludgy feel to it that would have been very much at home on the same stage as part of London’s Desertfest.
(the) Melvins never fail to impress and I look forward to seeing them many more times in the future. Check out all things Melvins here, and make sure you listen to the new album, you won’t find many better this year.
Many thanks to Lauren at Rarely Unable.
